Neil Cameron
has spent many years providing consultancy services to
organisations staging celebratory events, cultural development
projects and arts events. His clients include federal, state and
local government, arts groups, festivals, community organisations
and universities.
He has just
finished a two-year research project which examines the way the
arts are being used in society today, and from this research has
written a book called The Art Makers about the importance
of cultural development. The Art Makers, which will be
published in 2005, is a study of eight different arts realms and
their influence on our community from a positive and negative
point of view. It warns that without consistent attention to
cultural policies we can easily drift into cultural problems which
can have a profound affect on the way we all live.
While the book develops strong theories, it is also based
on over thirty years of experience in the field.
Neil
is
a recognised expert on festival, community ritual and celebration
and brings a wide range of knowledge to consultancy processes. He
combines his experience and research
as a basis for consultancy projects and believes firmly that more
research is needed in this complex area. Much of his work has
included contemporary thoughts on cognitive processes and the
relations between culture and human development and the vital role
the arts plays in this process.
