In 1997, Hobart was the southern-most port of call for an international fleet of sailing vessels on their round-the-world journey. In an event on the water at Constitution Dock, fire and firework effects brought to life a scene of ghost ships and sea monsters based on old seafaring stories and the illustrated maps of the early explorers. With fears and imaginary dangers consigned to the flames, the visitors were bid bon voyage for the journey home.
